Rock music. Some may cry we've heard it all before - wait til you hear Cadillac's third album 'Magnetic City', full of noisy guitars, thrashing drums and scuzzy bass drones - a pure textbook rock mélange. So yes, you probably have heard it all before. It may sound familiar, but for those of you not in the know, these Queens Of The Stone Age wannabes have attracted quite a following in native Norway driving the nation into a frenzy and causing head on collisions in the singles and album charts over the past six years.
However, us Brits know how to rock, but this is just a poor excuse that just doesn't satisfy. They cover territory already trodden on, so it's not really ground breaking stuff - not even close. Their 'heavy' sounds wouldn't even cause pebbles to crack. The album ignites with opener 'Locomotive'. Pulsating drums and snarling vocals, again plagiarized from QOTSA. Cruise past several tracks and hit the forthcoming single 'Wilder Than This'. Literally nothing could be wilder than this undercooked, angular euro-rock. Overtake the majority of the album, and the engine cuts out at their attempt to cover Siouxsie And The Banshees 'Arabian Nights'. The result is like crashing into a ditch. Terrifying. They may be the cadillac of euro-rock, but they lack balls, creativity and audacity. It sounds like they've been hanging around At The Drive In too long, copying their sound!
This isn't road rage, they do rock like an irritating sunday driver who cruises leisurely at 40mph. Hardly full throttle. However, if they're to live up to their name, Cadillac, it's inevitable that they
behave like the car by looking trashy, a bit retro and being a try-hard...... a look likely to come into fashion at some point soon.
