Various Artists - 'Punk O Rama'No longer just a vehicle for selling Bad Religion records Epitaph’s stable of bands includes runners and riders from the indie, emo, hardcore, rap, hip hop and punk worlds. As the 10th in the Punk-O-Rama series perhaps Epitaph should take this opportunity to think of a new title for their next compilation. If you put out a CD called Punk-O-Rama then fill it full of all your other bands that quite clearly aren’t punk, you are going to piss a few people off, this reviewer included...

This punk CD includes far too many indie songs for me, and the rap inclusions baffle me. There are a couple of pleasant enough emo tracks from the likes of Motion City Soundtrack (‘When “You’re” Around’) and Matchbook Romance (‘Lovers & Liars’). The punk songs that they do manage to squeeze onto this lengthy selection come from the usual suspects; Pennywise (‘Falling Down’), NOFX (‘No Fun In Fundamentalism’), Rancid (‘White Knuckle Ride’), the Dropkick Murphys (‘The Warrior’s Code’) and Roger Miret & The Disasters (‘Riot, Riot, Riot’).

Whoever decided to follow Bad Religion’s ‘The Surface Of Me’ with The Robocop Kraus and their god-awful offering, ‘All The Good Men’ needs to feel some serious pain so that this heinous crime against decent music is never, ever replicated.

This CD boasts eight previously unreleased tracks that are worth a listen, including ‘Mission From God’ by The Offspring and Bad Religion’s ‘News From The Front’. The live version of The Bouncing Souls’ ‘Anchors Aweigh’ is another positive.

As well as 28 tracks on the CD the compilation also comes with a bonus DVD with 24 promotional videos on it. The DVD certainly adds value but it suffers from the same Jamie Oliver approach as the CD with a load of different types of music all chucked into the baking tray together.

Whilst this CD is certainly ASDA price, it sacrifices quantity over quality and sorely disappoints on the punk front. But hey, with the sheer volume of music and videos on this CD/DVD you are bound to find a few you like, just don’t expect too much punk.
