Hidden In Plain View - Life In DreamingNew Jersey five piece Hidden In Plain View are not going to surprise anyone who has already heard the current crop of emo rockers. That said their brand of rock being one of the most popular teenage distractions across the western world their lack of ability to surprise will do them no harm, as their delivery is guitar crunch and emo wail perfect.

The opening track ‘Bleed For You’ is a pop rock shot at the charts with full on catchy sing along choruses and sets the tone well for the rest of the album. If you dig anything from Lostprophets to Jimmy Eats World to Hundred Reasons you’ll be loving this. However anyone looking for the clever time and key changes of At the Drive-In (who set the bar for a thousand bands to attempt to follow in their tracks) will be disappointed. The songs follow a fairly formulaic route, though standout track ‘Garden Statement’ and slowy ‘The Innocent Ones’ make a nice reprieve before the rock out climax.

Claiming to be influenced by the likes of Blink 182 and Foo Fighters means HIPV’s musical vocabulary is a small and historically short one, giving them very little room for manoeuvre to flex their experimental muscles. But the public gets what the public wants and while Blink 182 have joined the great big band in the sky, here’s a group of guys that are still young enough and dumb enough to deliver the goods.
