‘Still Not Getting Any…’ is the second album from Montreal five-piece Simple Plan. According to Simple Plan’s website they are not a pop band, not a punk band, not a rock band, just a great band. According to this reviewer they are not a pop band, not a punk band, not a rock band, just a bland band. The packaging suggests something a bit more hardcore than this reconstituted dross. That said the first two tracks, ‘Shut Up!’ and ‘Welcome To My Life’ are ok; catchy pop punk, sing and bop along. After that, just press stop on your CD player because it all goes down hill from track three with slushy ‘Perfect World’.
The rest of the album tries to tick too many marketing boxes. The mellow rock pop love ballads, ‘Everytime’, ‘Promise’ and ‘Untitled’ will only appeal to the pre-teenage girl market. And it’s fair to say that ‘Me Against The World’ will not become the next anthem for the disaffected youth.
At least they can all play their instruments but it’s a shame they can only play bits of other songs and add cheesy love lyrics. ‘Jump’ is not bad but considering the song is about being frustrated with life, hating your job and not caring any more its odd that the most rebellious solution they can come up with is to jump.
Buy this album if you like Busted, Avril Lavinge and McFly.
Don’t buy it if you like Blink 182, The Offspring and Sum 41.
