FULCI make no excuses for never having heard of FULC before, but the propaganda statement reads “FULC play scuzzy edgy hard rock with a melodic twist/the perfect (wake me up) antidote to the bland uninspired music being peddled around in the new millennium” ummmm…that’ll be why I never heard of the then!

Genuinely that statement is pretty close to the truth, although they’re far from revolutionary they are melodic grunge rock and are somewhat good at it! Influenced heavily by Nine Inch Nails and Muse (the former sonically dominating) EMRACE.DESTROY, the second album released by the Leeds Troupe sees 6 songs (bit lazy eh?) of relentless throbbing bass, howling vocals, pounding toms, and slash style riffage.

Most notable is download only single ‘Wasting’ with its almost tantric progression from delayed guitar to Hatfield style vocal roar. The tired formula of quick quick slow, rock on, rock off is employed without regret, and considering it's done as melodically as this its easy to forgive; put simply they do the job without wading through complication. ‘Entrapment’ strikes an emotive stance reminiscent of Korn complete with acoustic charm and seeping vocals, it makes you realise there is some hope for a genre often dismissed for lack of imagination and content. At no point does the crippling and relentless pace falter, maybe a consequence of only delivering 6 songs, but still 6 great songs on one album should be commended. Title track ‘EMBRACEDESTROY’ is an onslaught for the senses and captures FULC in full throttle.

This really is something special- that said from someone who couldn’t give two shits about this genre should say a little something about this record. The release of EMBRACE.DESTROY should be enough to catapult FULC into rock stardom; they really are one of the UK’s brightest rock hopefuls.
