Hailing their return to the hip-hop scene gentlemen rappers Arrested Development keep the positive vibes flowing.  Avoiding the usual ‘bling, pimps and ho’s’ favoured by many modern day rappers, ‘Since The Last Time’ pays tribute doing it for the love of music.

Not shy of hitting back at their rivals ‘Miracles’ sees them mix gospel choirs with sly digs at the ‘dumb company’ they find themselves in, declaring confidently ‘We’re from the old school this is real hip-hopping’. At a time when acts like Gnarls Barkley and OutKast can enjoy widespread chart success Arrested Development couldn’t have timed their comeback better.
Channelling a DelaSoul feel on ‘Heaven’ their laidback grooves are more suited to lying on sunny beaches than a wet British Winter.

‘Sunshine’ looks back to their better known hits like ‘Mr Window’ and ‘People Everyday’, with a bouncy happy feel that would sit right at home in a Fresh Prince episode. Preaching peace and love in a chirpy way ‘Stand’ is a just little bit too sickly sweet, while the children’s choir on ‘It’s Time’ make it sound more like Sesame Street than Kanye West.  Starting out as a straightforward dance number ‘Inner City’, shows it’s harder edge with some ultra fast rapping mixed with choppy drumbeats. ‘I Know I’m Bad’ packs even more of a punch with latino rhythms slinking along to funk led basslines, ‘Got The Feeling’ is more of a wimpy playground chant by comparison.
With a soulful DJ Format vibe, ‘Caught Me’ is catchy song about the perils of getting caught out cheating.

Although ‘Since The Last Time’ is a bit too long, Arrested Development continue to inspire acts ranging from OutKast to collaborators like DJ Shadow, there really is no school like the old school.
