It cannot be said that Dierks Bentley is universally famous, nor does he get more than the minimum amount of screen and air time, at least in the UK. This is because Dierks Bentley does Country and Western no matter how much he dresses it up as anything else. There are some things you just cannot hide.

To be fair the eternal Dolly Parton also made use of electric guitar and other tricks during her fabulous career, and we certainly cannot begrudge her that, bless her. Dierks is not quite the same level as talent as that good lady, but he does try rather hard, and its difficult not to like the music of somebody who makes an effort whatever banner of genre its under. We may get prejudiced because of it, but there are some tracks which have the same general effect as anything by Greenday or Reel Big Fish or Metallica, just in an entirely different style. Not that Dierks is in the same league as those notables, but he certainly injects the same amount of life experience and emotion and so on.
And yet…does the word ‘Nashville’ mean anything to you all? However he does seem confident enough in his ability to be preparing for the release of a DVD called ‘The Dierks Bentley Experience’ which regretfully sounds like something you see advertised at a travelling fairground, but no matter.

Back to the music! If you feel inclined to pick up this CD (a matter of personal choice rather than encouragement) then you might want to skip to the title track ‘Long Trip Alone’ which isn’t actually that bad and is delightfully melancholy. Also try ‘Hope For me Yet’ which has a certain catchy something about it, maybe it’s the dulcet tones, maybe its the lyrics, but it strikes the rhythm bone certainly. He likes singing about drink and naughtiness though, so all credit to him.
