The artwork on this is wonderful. The hand of the cover designer should be shook and encouraged to get work hung in galleries. But enough of such visualness, the music should be talked about. Well, it is Meatloaf, what precisely do you expect? Fine, for those people living under a stone for the past however many odd years, the style is a mix of classic, contemporary and baroque rock, with a touch of opera and storytelling thrown in for good measure. It is pure and utter performance. It reaches down your gullet and says ‘Look buddy, this is for your benefit, enjoy it and join in or else.’

Anyway, there are new songs specially written for this third album in the trilogy and there are guest performances from the likes of Nikki Sixx (from Motley Crue hurrah), John 5 (apparently has something to do with Marilyn Manson) and of course Brian May (if you don’t know that name get out now). The list of significant others that the producer of the album, Desmond Child has is boggling.

And of course there is Meatloaf himself, the loveable scamp that he is.

So, does this album hold up against the previous two blockbusting 45 million sales albums? Uh, ah…well, yeah but only because it is Meatloaf. He is probably one of the few who could make an album of this nature work.

Lets talk about the DVD! Yes this album being lovely comes with a DVD to watch containing montages, madness and massive, massive performances. Also the animated trailer for the album included on this disc is very cool to view (as well as being rather funny). Oh and it has a making of bit with interviews and suchlike, telling everyone what a journey it was to make.
Argh, Meatloaf is just so cool. But…hmm. There is an intangible something or other that just makes the album not have the same impact as the other two. There’s a different kind of emotional feel to it, which makes it different and have the same kind of groovy. The new version of ‘Its all coming back to me now’ with Marion Raven is rather good though.
