So, a bunch of guys from somewhere off west decided to get together and make music. The result is an album which is supposed to make hearts uplift and spirits soar, etc. etc.
Let’s get down to the gritty. The type of music is of the sort we do not see enough of these days except in other peoples’ music collections and certain damnable music channels. It is of a very soft rock with actually really quite talented lead guitar, but unfortunately the lead singer (who happens to be the same guy) is under the pretence he can carry a tune alas. He does make up for it in sheer enthusiasm, perhaps he was merely ill the day of the recording?
The rest of the band hold things together nicely, with neat harmonising and general, look-at-us-arent-we-goodness. They deserve to be more popular than they actually seem to be.
Van Tramp do enjoy a certain amount of popularity and associated fanbase it has to be said, they are often gigging in their search for, as they put it “the easy life”. Perhaps they should have spent a little more time on this particular album, which seems to lack that essential bit of variety necessary for…well…a varied album.
Their website is a piece of artistic genius by the way, it is recommended you go visit it. Tracks approved of are (good gods the naming scheme of these tracks was probably thought to be original): ‘7teen’, which is a lovely soulful sort of thing, which when one reads the lyrics book is actually quite painful and meaningful. Also liked is ‘Youtopia’ which although the lyrics probably only mean something to the lyricist, the tune itself is wonderful to relax to.
Oh, keep an ear out for the ultra secret bonus track ‘Dear Sir’ which occurs about 20 seconds after the end of the actual track 12. Sneaky swines.
