If you used to love the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack then you should start to listen out for The Webb Sisters. Born and raised in Kent, and currently living in California’s Venice Beach, their debut album 'Daylight Crossing' contains many tracks that would be perfect for a Dawson’s Creek soundtrack...were it still being made that is.
Sisters Hattie (23) and Charley (27) have angelic voices, and their style has resulted in an album reminiscent of the work of Keane, Natasha Bedingfield and The Corrs. Unfortunately though, as you listen to this album you get an overwhelming sense of déjà vu. This has all been done before.
The music is wallowing in emotion, atmospheric and feminine but it just doesn’t stand out as anything new.
The sisters have come from an extremely musical family and say that their lives so far have lead to the release of this, their debut album. The girls’ session drummer father brought them up on a constant diet of loud music that meant that Hattie and Charley couldn’t help but have music as an integral part of their life. By the time they were teenagers the pair were giving nationwide recitals on the harp and piano, sometime earning up to £600 a gig! The girls felt that everything they had done in their lives until now, had led them to the time when they’d released an album.
“Everything we’ve done since birth has led us to this point, says Hattie. “The best things of all is that it doesn’t feel like we’ve reached any king of finishing line now that the album is finally ready; it feels like we are just beginning. The journey is still unfolding.”
With an album this bland time will only tell how much longer they will be on their journey for however. Give it a whirl if you tend to like the bleeding-heart soundtracks of American teen-dramas, otherwise I would save your money for something else.
