On ‘Word of Mouth’, Leeds band The Blueskins are re-visiting the British R n’ B of The Yardbirds and Led Zep, itself a distinctly anglophile take on the blues forefathers. But thankfully, due to a hefty dose of punk rock attitude, this is anything but a tired old, post White Stripes re-hash.
‘Change My Mind’ (one of the best singles of the last year – fact!) as a case in point fairly fizzes along, like Page & Plant being given a good old kickin’ at a deep south hoe down.
Equally comfortable on the more balls-out rock numbers (‘Ellie Meadows’ & ‘Tell Me I’m Someone’) as well as the more textured blues (‘Take Me Home’), ‘Word of Mouth’ is yet another feather in the cap for the pioneering Domino.
