Many artists who have been unlucky enough to feel the wrath of 50 Cent have ended up wishing they hadn’t got involved (Ja Rule to name but one), but one success story has evolved after catching beef from G-Unit’s man-in-charge. Bang ‘Em & Domination have overcome the odds to drop one of the year’s best albums.
Its eclectic range crosses many different boundaries from gangsta-fied bangers ('Stay Down (****in’ Wit The Best)') to dedicatory heartfelt joints ('What Does It Take'), but the key to its staying power is the choice of faultless production. Not one bad step is taken on this journey of rap empowerment and when you have a track like 'I’ll Be Around' opening your album you know shit is serious. This cut in particular explores the misfortunes of certain individuals and how it affects others.
Domination talks of how he’s got friends locked up, Bang ‘Em included (due to his recent incarceration), and how he can see the light at the end of the tunnel. 'Misery' explores the darker side of life and how sometimes it can overcome even the strongest of characters, again the production is flawless. Fans who know the reasoning behind the beef between Bang ‘Em and 50 were probably expecting an LP full of diss records (as the duo have laid down many on the mixtape scene) but there’s only one, and it’s not really a diss but instead their side of the story. This album is truly one of this year’s finest.
