The High Wire — ‘Saint Bees’

The High Wire — ‘Saint Bees’ Photo:

Relative unknowns the High Wire walk that fine line between brilliance and boredom in the epic and ethereal ‘Saint Bees’, a hazy, psyche-delicate number that clearly owes its sainthood to (the) Jesus (and Mary Chain). Heavenly hooks turn on the hinge of some finely placed organs and the angelic backing vocals of Emma McGlynn and A Girl Called Eddy. “One hand to pray, and one to wave goodbye, one to hold you close”— the High Wire manages to do it all, and all at once. Amen.
