James Blunt retires from music! The quits and splits of 2012

Alas poor Blunty... But who else has ended their career this year?

In an interview with NME, the bassist said: "It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. 'You're Beautiful,' he sang to us in 2005 and indeed, we were so charmed by James Blunt that no one really bothered to buy any of his singles ever again. Ho hum. Such is the way of a one-hit-wonder.

James Blunt actually chalked up seven Top Forty hits during his career, but it is his chart topping ballad that he will be remembered for, which launched the career of the former soldier and soundtracked countless marriage proposals during the following years. Now James Blunt has announced his retirement from music, telling The Daily Mail: "I haven’t got any plans to do more songwriting."

"I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza, where I have a villa. I just want to take some time out for myself."

But Blunt isn't the only one to decide enough is enough in 2012 and step out of the music business. From international dance bands ending their time on top to rock and indie bands shedding members - check out the quits and splits of 2012...
