The debut albums it will be a struggle to follow

Lana, Two Door - who set the bar highest?

  • Love it or hate it, Lana del Rey's 'Born To Die' was a blow up success in the music world. For a while it was impossible to go anywhere without hearing the sultry tones of 'Video Games' so it's no wonder that the album sold 50,000 copies in the UK alone on the first day of release. It'll be difficult for Lana to prove that she's more than just a one-trick pony after this one.

Debut albums are tricky things. It's a band's first chance to share their sound with the world - and we all know how important first impressions are.

But what about follow-ups? If a debut album makes it big, there's no doubt that it can be hard to live up to, especially once that wave of hype starts to die down, and many bands and artists have struggled to follow up a hugely successful album.

As Two Door Cinema Club prepare to take the plunge with their new album 'Beacon', take a look at our favourite debut albums, and join us as we question whether the follow-up can be anywhere near as good...
