Rihanna has revealed that she chose Chris Brown to appear on the remix to her single 'Cake' because she wanted someone with a 'dirty' reputation.
The collaboration, which came out earlier this year, caused many raised eyebrows coming, as it did, just three years after Brown was convicted of assaulting Rihanna before a party in LA.
However, Rihanna not only says that is in the past but is happy to trade on the infamy a renowned woman beater brings to the recording studio. Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Rihanna said: 'I thought it would be cute to do it with a guy. I wondered, who can be dirty, someone who people will really believe?'
Adding: 'Look, I understand that people had every right to be concerned about it. But I didn't see it that way because I'm in a different place.
'Music is music and my fans have been asking me to record with him. I just felt like it was time. It was time.'
Meanwhile, it was confirmed this week that Rihanna is working on her next studio album and has hooked up with UK producer Labrinth on new sessions.
