After conquering the UK singles and album charts with his 2011 take on the classic folk sound, Ed Sheeran turned his attentions to the tricky US market - as so many British stars tend to do. However, unlike so many musicians before him, it seems his efforts have succeeded, with debut album '+' beating Usher's latest to the No.1 spot on American iTunes.
For every British artist who succeeds Stateside, there are countless stars who fall foul of American tastes.
