'Part Of Me' singer Katy Perry is rumoured to be in the running to play Mary Austin in an upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic, according to tabloid reports.

The Mirror claims that Perry, who is set to make her cinema debut with 3D documentary 'Part Of Me' this month is set to star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in the new movie. The film is set to be directed by Graham King and will include involvement from Brian May and Roger Taylor.

"Katy would love to be in the film as she is such a huge fan," says a source to the tabloid. "She would want to play Mary Austin ideally. Katy has a similar look to Mary and would be a brilliant foil to Sacha."

Mercury and Cohen were a couple for six years during the seventies and was one of those closest to Freddie Mercury up until his death in 1991.
