Disco legend Donna Summer will be laid to rest today (23 May, 2012) at a private ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee.

US website TMZ reports that family and friends will pay their respects to the 'I Feel Love' legend at an invite-only ceremony and that a strict guest list will be implemented at the funeral. The family have said they do not want any media to attend.

Summer died after a long battle with lung cancer on 17 May, 2012. she is said to have told friends that she blamed the cancer on inhaling dust from the 9/11 bombings in New York.

Following her Summer's death, Scissor Sisters star Ana Matronic (among many others) paid tribute to the singer, telling Gigwise: "Her gospel background lifted everyone up. whether she was singing a happy song or a sad song, she always made you feel very, very spiritual and that's what I loved about her."
