Britpop survivors Damon Albarn and Gaz Coombes are launching solo projects this month - and both are a long way from the nineties heyday of Blur and Supergrass.

But this pair are not alone in weathering the music industry's tricky terrain, as many UK rockers have enjoyed successful careers long outlasting rivals and competitors. Some stick with the bands that made them famous such as Manic Street Preachers and Pulp, while the likes of the Gallagher brothers have established themselves as successful artists in different incarnations.
