This year has certainly been an odd one in the world of music, we've had bust-ups, reunions, the biggest festival season ever and as per usual a whole heap of drama.

Gigwise has compiled a calendar of the moments that seized the headlines this year only to refuse to let go, from the tragic death of Amy Winehouse to the way that women have led the year in music, from Lady gaga to Beyonce headlining Glastonbury.

Nevertheless 2011 certainly has been eventful and as it draws to a close I'm sure we'll all shed a tear for events past and hope that the end of the world doesn't meet us at its close.
