Modern Warfare 3 has become the fastest selling piece of entertainment of all time, eclipsing previous record holder Avatar.
The video game managed to rake in $1 billion in sales within just 16 days of its release, beating James Cameron's movie, which took 17 days to generate the same number.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold 6.5 million copies during its first 24 hours in North America and the UK alone.
In addition, Acitivision's subscription service, Call of Duty: Elite, which serves as an add-on to the game, has attracted over one million subsribers.
Modern Warfare 3 is available on XBox 360, PS3 and PC.
