The PlayStation Vita will be able to play PS3 games remotely, it has been reported.

Eurogamer has said that a future firmware update on the console will enable all games to be streamed to the new handheld.

Although current games will only display at 480x272 resolution, developers are optimistic about creating a Vita specific mode that will play at 480p.

A similar feature was demoed by Sony at this year's Tokyo Game Show, when Killzone 3 was played on a Vita, with additional missing buttons on the device being replicated on the touch screen.

PlayStation Vita goes on sale in Japan on December 17, coming to North America and Europe on February 22, 2012.
