Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino has said the band need to go on “a big break” before they begin to think about recording another album.

The New York band have been on tour for over 12 months since the release of their self-titled fourth album last year.

In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Forgarino said they were looking forward to time off and that he and all his bandmates had plans in place outside the group.

“We need a big break. Interpol needs it. We need to recoup and go on a proper hiatus,” he said.

“Who knows what is ahead for the band, I think we're all just looking forward to relaxing for a while and catching up with our own things.”

Fogarino, who said he was planning to “keep busy” during the break, also revealed that singer Paul Bank would be releasing another solo album next year as Julian Plenti.

“Paul has another solo record coming out some time next year and Daniel will probably just start working on new ideas for Interpol I would imagine,” the drummer added.

Interpol were among the performers at last weekend's Reading and Leeds festivals.
