Kanye West And Lesbian Kisses: MTV VMAs Most Memorable Moments

Ahead of this year's ceremony...

  • 1992: During a reluctant VMA opening of ‘Lithium’ an annoyed Nirvana began their performance by playing the opening bars of their original song of choice ‘Rape Me’, almost causing the network to cut to an ad. The performance was also notable for Kris Novoselic launching his guitar into the air, which hit him on the head and caused him to stagger offstage before Cobain spat on the piano that Axl Rose was due to play on later in the show.

Whether it’s Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech or Madonna snogging Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, one thing’s for sure – the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) never disappoint.

Ahead of this year’s ceremony, which takes place at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday (August 28), Gigwise thought it was only fair to take a look back at some of the award’s most memorable moments.

As well as the aforementioned incidents, our round-up also features the likes of Oasis, Aerosmith and Run DMC, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson and the VMAs youngest recipient, Justin Bieber.

Check out our full countdown below and let us know your favourite moments in the comment form at the bottom of this page.
