It's been forty nine years since James Bond made his first movie, and in that time, certain things have become synonymous with 007 - fast cars, sharp suits, racial stereotyping, hot Bond girls and, of course, a bombastic, over-the-top, fully-fledged anthem of a theme tune.
Dr No, made in 1962, didn't have one of these, although that was rectified second time round, with Matt Munro singing From Russia With Love. Ever since then, it's been nothing short of a cacophanic free-for-all, ranging from the sublime of Carly Simon's Nodoby Does It Better, to the ridiculous (and, on this, there are a ridiculous amount to choose from).
With KIngs of Leon throwing their hat into the Bond 23 ring, placing themselves in a queue fronted by Lady Gaga and Michael Buble, now seems as good a time as ever to look back at a half century of movie scoring magic.
