There was a time when performing on The X Factor was seen as a poisoned chalice for already established musicians.

As Justin Bieber gets ready to make an appearance on this weekend’s programme, Gigwise has taken a look at other artists who have sold out to the X Factor over recent years.

From Lady Gaga to Sir Paul McCartney this is a selection of the stars you would (and wouldn’t) expect to take a turn on The X Factor.
