Phil Spector has been relocated to a “sensitive needs” wing of a prison in California, which means he will be entitled to make requests for a series of personal items.
The music producer, who was jailed in April for killing b-movie actress Lana Clarkson, was assigned to the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison on Monday.
Spector will not be given a cellmate in his new area, which is reserved for people who need extra protection.
The producer's wife, Rachelle, told the Los Angeles Times her husband wanted a TV and an iPod – and to be given the opportunity to receive email.
A prison spokesman also revealed that Spector, who pioneered the Wall of Sound recording technique, could be able to help other inmates with an interest in music.
"The facility he is on now, there are a bunch of inmates that have instruments and they all play together on the exercise yard," Stephen Smith said.
The 67-year-old faces at least 18 years in prison after he shot Clarkson at his home in Los Angeles four years ago.
