Police Fire Tear Gas At Rioting Iron Maiden Fans

Colombian police were forced to fire tear gas at a group of Iron Maiden fans on Saturday (March 7th) after they tried to gatecrash a concert in Bogota.

More than 100 people were arrested during the violent exchanges with police, which began before the metal band's show was due to begin in Simon Bolivar Park.

A police report said the violence had been caused by "embarrassing acts perpetrated by a group of malcontents who wanted to enter without tickets".

The BBC reports that one police officer was injured after fans began throwing rocks at officials. The officer is understood to have received reconstructive surgery for a facial injury.

Forty people remain in police custody in connection with the incident and will be asked to pay for damage caused during the clashes.

Iron Maiden, who took to the stage after the disturbance, are currently on a South American tour.
