Kanye West Compares Barack Obama Presidency To iPods

US rapper Kanye West joked last night (January 20th) that Barack Obama's presidency was as avant-garde as the invention of the iPod.

"I still can't believe it. I feel like I'm in the future - first iPods, now this,” the rapper told MTV at the Inaugural Youth Ball in Washington DC.

West was one of a host of performers at the event, which recognised how Obama's bid for the White House had galvanised America's youth.

Before beginning a seven-minute medley of his hits, West told the crowd: "Let's make some noise for our new president, Obama. It feels so good to be standing here.

"My mama would be so proud to see her baby boy with the number one song in the country and our new African-American president."

West's short set included snippets of his songs 'Touch The Sky', 'Stronger', and new single 'Heartless'.

The ball, which was one of ten held across the Capitol, featured a brief appearance from the President, who shared a dance with his First Lady Michelle.

In an informal speech, President Obama said his “improbable journey” to Washington was “carried forward, was inspired by, was energized by young people all across America.”

Fall Out Boy, Kid Rock and Santogold also performed at the Inaugural Youth Ball.
