Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has described Pete Doherty as a “very funny, warm and charming” person – but admitted that he often gets angry with him.
The guitarist, who plays guitar on Doherty's debut solo album, discussed his relationship with the Babyshambles star on Blur's official forum.
Writing in reponse to a poster who question Coxon's motives for working with Doherty, the guitarist said he only “entertained the idea” after hearing “promise” on the singer's initial demos.
"I actually like Pete as a person a lot. He is very funny, warm and charming. He has rough press and not surprisingly so,” Coxon wrote.
"He is also very impressionable, quite vulnerable, rather too trusting and needlessly gets himself into some difficulties – basically and unfortunately for him, he is a scumbag magnet.
"I really do think it's easy to think Pete is a waster. I also have been more than a little angry with him at times for pissing his talent up the wall on too many occasions.”
But Coxon added that when Doherty “sees through the murk” at the opportunities he has, “he can really come up with the goods”.
"Some songs here touched me quite deep to be honest. And lyrically I think he's bang on with this record,” he added.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Doherty's solo album, which is currently untitled, will be released in the UK on March 9th.
The album will be preceded by the single, 'Last Of The English Roses', on March 2nd.
