Gordy purchased a studio in 1959 on 2648 West Grand Blvd, Detroit, Michigan. Open 22 hours a day, the studio acted as the label's administrative HQ and recording studio for the artists. When the hits started rolling in in the sixties it was dubbed Hitsville USA and acted as Motown's base from 1959 to 1972. It now stands as a Motown museum.
