50 years Ago: Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown form The Primettes in Detroit from the ashes of the two girl/two boy group The Primes. After a number of line-up changes, the group gradually evolved and changed their name to The Supremes. By the mid 1960s the Motown outfit were one of the biggest acts on the planet, scoring five consecutive number ones in the US with 'Where Did Our Love Go', 'Baby Love', 'Come See About Me', 'Stop! In The Name Of Love' and 'Back In My Arms Again'.
