The Republican Party has reacted with outrage after Madonna bracketed an image of presidential hopeful John McCain with Adolf Hitler on the opening night of her world tour.
An image of Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe and Global Warming also appeared during a video montage which accompanied the song ‘Get Stupid’.
Tucker Bounds, a spokesperson for McCain’s campaign team, told Fox News that any comparisons are “outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time.”
Towards the end of the track, images of Beatle John Lennon, former US vice-president Al Gore and current Democratic hopeful Barack Obama appeared to change the tone of Madonna’s message.
Mr Bounds added: "It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."
Madonna’s show in Cardiff on Saturday was the first of 27-dates on her world tour, which continues in London next month.
