Isaac Hayes, the soul singer responsible for the 'Theme From Shaft', has died at the age of 65.
Hayes was found unresponsive at his home in Memphis in the early hours of Sunday morning. He died later in hospital.
In addition to his music career, Hayes also starred in a number of TV series, including South Park, where he played Chef.
The popularity of Hayes’ role in the cartoon brought him fresh chart success in the UK with ‘Chocolate Salty Balls’, which topped the charts.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Collin Stanback, an A&R executive at Stax records, said that Hayes embodied everything about soul music.
"When you think of soul music you think of Isaac Hayes — the expression ... the sound and the creativity that goes along with it."
