David Bowie: David Jones – In the early sixties, Bowie went under the stage name of Davy Jones but soon dropped this to avoid confusion with The Monkees star. Instead, he kept his first name and took his surname from nineteenth century Texan soldier and pioneer Jim Bowie and his 'bowie knife.'
