Actually, Simon said that David Cook was his favorite. If you read interviews, Simon said he thought Cook was more deserving of the win, but Archuleta had the preteen and granny vote.
Cowell was critical about Cook compared to Archuleta on the finale night, but he certainly supported Cook (called him ”phenomenal” on many occasions).
