Jay-Z has spoken about his involvement as a producer on the afrobeat musical, Fela!.
The rapper pledged his support for the production, which opened on Monday, at the last minute alongside actor Will Smith.
In an interview with MTV, Jay-Z said he had been inspired by Fela Kuti's life as a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and afrobeat founder.
"It's an inspiration, about the power of music,” he said.

Dave Grohl says his late Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain's personal problems have created a false image of the 90s group.
In an interview with The Scotsman, Grohl, who played drums in Nirvana, acknowledged the singer's troubles with addiction.
But he said the way they had been portrayed since Cobain's death in 1994 had influenced too much on the band's legacy.
"It's easy to imagine that we were followed by a black cloud. But it wasn't all misery and doom,” Grohl said.

Mumford & Sons have announced details of a special festive outdoor gig in London.
The band will perform at the winter fair at St. Martin In The Fields, Trafalgar Square on December 2.
Tickets are on sale now priced £15 each and are available exclusively via the band's official website.
Meanwhile, Mumford & Sons are due to release their new single, 'Winter Winds', on December 7.

Spiritualized Announce Special Collectors Edition Of 'Ladies And Gentlemen' It's out in December...

Spiritualized are to release a special collectors edition of their 1997 album, 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space'.
The package, due out on December 16, will include twelve 3” Mini CDs of the complete album track-by-track.
It also comes with two bonus 5” discs which contain 35 unreleased versions and outtakes, and a digital download code for the original album.
The special edition, which is limited to 1000 copies, also features individual prescription cards signed by J Spaceman and new artwork by Farrow and Spaceman.

Pete Doherty has revealed the shocking extent of his hospitalisation in Swindon last month.
The Babyshambles man says he was forced to cancel his Irish tour in October after his heart stopped resulting him being put on a life support machine.
At the time Doherty's reps stated that the singer was hospitalised due to “exhaustion and breathing difficulties.”
Speaking to NME.com, Doherty said: "If I hadn't been on a life support machine I'd have been in Ireland, but my heart stopped."

The Strokes are hoping to start recording their much anticipated fourth studio album in January.
Writing on his side project Nickel Eye's Twitter page, Nikolai Fraiture said The Strokes are on the hunt for a suitable studio with their manager Ryan Gentles.
He tweeted: “While the guys are in LA, I went to scout some studios in NYC with Ryan today for what looks like Jan recording!!! mood = fucking excited!”
However, speaking to Pitchfork, Julian Casablancas was slightly more cautious about the band reconvening.

Little Boots: 'I'm Fed Up With People Calling Me Fat On Twitter' She expresses her dismay...

Little Boots says it's really difficult to deal with when Twitter users call her fat online.
The singer – real name Victoria Hesketh – first Tweeted last week complaining about the taunts.
She wrote: "ok getting really bored of people calling me fat online now... diet started yesterday, you don't have to rub it in."
Now, speaking to the BBC, Hesketh has expressed her dismay: "It is really difficult. I guess just doing this job you become used to it whether it's on the internet or in the papers, people saying things which simply aren't true about you.
"I think the internet is just a place where if you make yourself known publicly on it you're going to be open to people's opinions.
"You've just got to be quite hard-skinned about it and try not to worry if someone says you're fat or ugly or untalented - which they do."

A plethora of new acts have been confirmed for Primavera Sound Festival 2010.
Joining the line up (deep breath) are Wild Beasts, Wilco, The New Pornographers, The Fall, Panda Bear, The xx, The Antlers, The Bloody Beetroots, Camarón: La Leyenda Del Tiempo 30 Años Después, Delorean, Dum Dum Girls, Ganglians, Here We Go Magic, Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions and Joker featuring Nomad.
They will all appear alongside the previously announced headliners the Pixies and Pavement.
Primavera Sound 2010 takes place from May 27th to 29th at the Parc del Forum in Barcelona.
