Jamaican born singer/songwriter Mozez began his musical career singing in the gospel churches of his homeland. Later moving to England he formed his own duo Spirits who toured around the superclubs of the 90's before working with Nightmares on Wax and his celebrated collaboration with chill out kings Zero 7. ‘So Still’ is his solo debut.

It was Mozez's rich, soulful voice that gave much of Zero 7's work its heart, and it's this background which carries most of his own record. Going from deep and lush on the likes of ‘Troubled Mind’, soaring to almost Jeff Buckley heights on lullaby ‘So Still’. His vocals sit a-top layers deep slow bass and gentle electronica, it's a record aimed at winding you down, but the music itself is perhaps a little too relaxed.
Chill out by definition is not meant to be exciting but some of this polished debut doesn’t even appear on radar. There are moments of brilliance like the title track and the Massive Attack leaning ‘Take the Sun’ but if you don’t listen hard it much of it fades quickly into the background. His voice gives the music life but there just aren’t enough little twists and turns to make it special.
Tense? Tired? Troubled? This record might not cure you but it won’t do you any harm either.
