The New Rock Revolution has a lot to answer for. Whilst The Strokes and the Stripes have fought admirably to restore good ol' guitar-fuelled chaos' rightful place in the public consciousness, it's not all been good news. For every Von Bondies, there's been a Datsuns. The garage rock bus is now so full of average chancers like The Star Spangles that you'd forgive Julian, Jack and co for throwing in the towel and buggering off to form indie's answer to S Club. Thank ****, then, for the timely arrival of LA's The Vacation. Having already attracted the attention of Beck's producer Tony Hoffer, the skinny-as-**** quartet are slowly acquiring an impressive reputation for incendiary riffs and swaggeringly-raucous live shows. Comin' atcha like a blend of prime speedball Supergrass, The Dirtbombs and funk-punkers Hot Hot Heat, the band's debut EP 'They Were The Sons' arrives in your local record store on 3rd November, courtesy of Fierce Panda Records. Followers of the Panda's Big Vanda may be surprised to hear this, given the complete absence of the label's usual Pixie-a-rama from The Vacation's sound. Bearing in mind, however, that this is the label that launched Coldplay, The Music and innumerable others, their talent-spotting ability should not be doubted. And when you hear the thunderous lead track 'White Noise', you'll be a believer too. Hooray! Hooray! It's a holiday! And what a holiday…
