A collection of early poems written by Bob Dylan when he was still at college are amongst the items going under the hammer at a New York auction.
Also up for auction are a medallion worn by Jimi Hendrix during his 1967 performance at the Moneterey Pop Festival, handwritten lyrics by Jim Morrison and a drum used by Paul McCartney during the fifties.
Dylan’s poems which date from when he was at the University of Minnesota from 1959-60 mark the first time he used the name ‘Dylan’ after changing his name from Zimmerman.
The 16-page collection is expected to fetch up to $80,000 when they go up for sale.
A Christies spokesperson said: “While some of the poems are rooted in his daily university life and reference his Jewish heritage and Yiddish phrases, the with and irony pervasive in his later songwriting are already evident in this body of work.”
Elsewhere, the Jikmi Hendrix medallion is expected to reach $80,000, while the Jim Morrison lyrics for the song ‘Not To Touch The Earth’ are estimated at up to $60,000.
