Welsh growlers, Stereophonics have no regrets whatsoever about firing their old friend and drummer Stuart Cable.Cable was sacked over ‘commitment’ issues in September 2003, despite Cable’s outrage the band are still maintaining he wanted to leave the band and had lost interest in music.
Kelly Jones does have one little regret, that Cable first found out about his dismissal when a radio presenter called him to ask him about it.
Jones said to contactmusic: "It got down to the point where he didn't want to go away and do as much as we wanted to do, and a lot of the time when he was there he gave off the vibe that he didn't really want to be there."
He adds, "In the circumstances I was in I couldn't have handled the situation better. I've spoken to Stuart and I've told him that I don't regret why it happened, but I apologised to him for how it happened.
"The lawyers and solicitors issued a press release before he had time to tell his family and all that. That was shit, but we couldn't help that."
Cable and Jones had been friends since they were kids. Cable has now been replaced by the Argentinean, Javier Weyler.
Cable received a six figure pay out from the ‘Phonics for his troubles, he is working on a new band and recently represented the Kerrang! Awards with Juliette Lewis.
