Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath and The Stooges are amongst the musical heavyweights nominated as inductees for the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.None of the acts have yet been confirmed as members, with judges usually making the decision by the end of the year.
Other acts up for the prestigious honour include Grandmaster Flash, the Patti Smith Group, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The formal initiation ceremony takes place in March 2006.
