Pop stars gathered last night for a televised benefit gig for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The hour long telethon featured some of the biggest names in music, including Bono, Neil Young and Rod Stewart.
The show also featured US comedian Chris Rock, told viewers of the show, broadcast over six American networks: "We've all heard the question, why didn't these people just leave when they had the chance? But now we realise that not everybody can just jump into their SUVs and drive to a nice hotel.
"These people depend on public transportation and these people can't afford a nice hotel, because some of them work there. Now it's your chance to help them."
The concert comes following the replacement of the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), after strong criticism of the handling of the disaster.
President Bush will return to Louisiana and Mississippi on Sunday.
