Photographer Ashley Maile, best known for his work on Kerrang Magazine has passed away, and artists have taken to the internet to pay tribute.

The news broke earlier this morning, when Kerrang! Editor James McMahon tweeted “Just learnt that Kerrang!'s photographer Ashley Maile passed away this week. All at Kerrang! are heartbroken. All love to friends/family”.

Maile was one of the magazine’s most active photographers, and took pictures of major acts including Dave Grohl, Muse, Slash and Metallica among others in his career.

His recent passing has prompted various artists to take to Twitter and Facebook to offer their condolences.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro tweeted from their official account this morning “Our hearts go out to Ashley Maile's family and friends”, whilst Gallows took to Facebook to say “Our thoughts go out to the loved ones of Ashley Maile on this sad day. He was a great person and photographer, it was a privilege to have worked with him”

Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash also tweeted about Maile this afternoon, telling his 2.3 million followers “Rock n Roll has lost a great photographer, person, friend, Ashley Maile. RIP man, we're going to miss u very much.”

The cause of Ashley Maile's death is currently unknown to the public, however his photographic portfolio is available to view online via his official website
