Golden mulleted rocker, Rod Stewart, has been in a Las Vegas court this week in order to “defend his honour” in a legal battle with a casino firm over a cancelled gig.
Rod announced, in May 2000, that he would be unable to perform at the December 2000 concert at the Rio Hotel & Casino – due to surgery for thyroid cancer.
Harrah’s Entertainment, the company which owns the Rio Hotel & Casino, are seeking the return of Stewart’s $2 million fee, plus interest and legal fees.
Harrah’s lawyer, Stephen Morris, magnanimously told the Las Vegas federal court: “We don’t hold his illness against him. We only wish to hold him to his contract, which says if he is ill or incapacitated and can’t perform, he will return the $2 million.”
The veteran rocker’s attorneys have told Harrah’s that Rod is willing to reschedule - and has even offered a two-for-the-price-of-one deal, femalefirst.com report today. His lawyer, Louis Miller, alleges that a clause in his contract allowed Stewart to keep the fee and offer a rescheduled concert if anything went awry.
The battle continues.
