    And Grime takes over!...

August 25, 2005 by Oliver Warwick

Mobo LogoThe nominees for this year’s MOBO awards have been announced, and it looks like Lemar will be chuckling smugly to himself this morning. The former Fame Academy boy has bagged five heads-up, including UK act of the year.

Grime pest Kano has also scored three nominations, highlighting the growing recognition of the homegrown music scene.

In fact the Best UK Newcomer award is chock-full of wobbly-bass loving, quick rapping crews, in the shape of Roll Deep, Lethal B, Sway, Kano as well as new R&B bwoy Nate James.

This year also sees the introduction of the Best African Act award, which is cunningly only voted for in Africa.

The awards take place on Thursday September 22 at Royal Albert Hall.
