Legendary gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson had his dying wish come true over the weekend when his ashes were fire from a huge cannon at his Colorado home over the weekend.
Thompson’s ashes were packed into 34 different shells and fired from a gun barrel mounted on top of a huge 150ft high monument. The monument, based on Thompson’s gonzo logo, took the form of a clenched fist.
A close friend of Thompson's, Michael Cleverly, said: "They've taken him out and had him pulverised into a consistency that is optimum for the blast, and it'll go straight up. It'll just be taken by the wind and drift around Woody Creek, a place that he loved."
Thompson shot himself in the head with a pistol six moths ago. He was found face down sat at his kitchen table alongside a typewriter that contained one sheet of writing paper with a single word ‘counselor’ typed on it.
