The BBC has decided to not use the recently shot graphic footage of Pete Doherty carving himself up with a broken bottle.
The decision has come after mental health charities raised fears that teenage fans of the Babyshambles frontman could copy him.
The footage has been dropped from the forthcoming documentary ‘Who The **** Is Pete Doherty’ which is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC3 on August 28.
A spokeswoman for the BBC said: “We won’t be showing the moment where Pete cuts himself. The programme is still being edited and the BBC has decided not to show that part.”
It all sounds pretty gross, one witness to Doherty’s self harming, film maker Greg Roselli, has told The Sun how Doherty started “to play with the river of blood” that was caused by a piece of glass being imbedded in his chest. Nasty.
A statement from mental health organisation The Samaritans said: “There’s a lot of evidence which shows that broadcast portrayals of self-harm can cause imitative behaviour.
“In particular, teenagers can be influenced by programmes which feature celebrities or people they can relate to.
“Young people who are going through a difficult time could see the footage and perceive self-harm as an appropriate way to cope with problems.”
Lets hope not...
