Susan Boyle has spoken out about her difficult school years, revealing the extent of the cruelty suffered at the hands of fellow pupils.
The Scottish singer, who releases her new album Standing Ovation this week, says that children in her school would harrass her and stub out their cigarettes on her when she was young. She describes the experience in a track by track discussion of her new album, singling out 'Out Here On My Own' as a song with particular relevance to the lonely star.
"This is the song that is so apt for my old life," says Boyle. "I was totally out on my own. Very few friends, taunted and bullied at school. Cigarettes stubbed out on my arms. This is the theme tune to my childhood!"
Boyle adds however, that including the track on the new album was theraputic, as it helped her move on from the memories that made her life so difficult.
"It was a hard song. It brought back a lot of memories but it was also very cathartic and helped me realise that I have achieved so much in a short space of time and it’s time to move on and let those scars from childhood heal.
"I’ve forgiven the people who tormented me. They still live around and about Blackburn and it’s not healthy to hold grudges now, is it."
Boyle's new album is out this week
The new album includes a duet with Donny Osmond and Michael Crawfod as well as covers of songs such as 'Send In The Clowns' and 'The Winner Takes It All'. She also singles out 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' as another with particular relevance.
"I felt it was quite a romantic song, wishing you were someone else. It relates to my life because for years I wished I was living a different life," she adds. "That I could escape the life I was living. It didn’t happen overnight and I had to work hard to make the changes but change it I did.
"All dreams can come true if you really want them to. My dream of singing professionally came true so it resonates with my life."

Below: Su's Anal Bum Party and more scenes we won't see in a movie of her life

10. The x-rated motorway outburst scene! None of us are strangers to the horrors of a Little Chef and an Esso in the middle of nowhere - not least Subo. The singer shocked coffee shop staff in June 2012 when she yelled "f*** off - i'm having a bad day" after being asked if she was OK.

9. The Nicki Minaj bum-groping scene! Nicki Minaj is known for her pop hits and massive bottom and while we don't know SuBo's feelings on 'Pound The Alarm', she is said to be keen on Minaj's rear. The pair 'got on like a house on fire' when they met on the set of America's Got Talent, with The Sun reporting: "She was fascinated by Nicki's bum and just couldn't take her hands off it."
8. The rock and roll 50th birthday party scene! While you might imagine Subo relaxing with a sherry and a hot bath on her 50th birthday - you couldn't be further from the truth. The singer is said to have raced to the dancefloor at her booze-fuelled party when Guns N' Roses 'Sweet Child O' Mine' was played. "She was playing air guitar and head-banging, having the time of her life," reported a gossip to tabloids.

7. Susan Boyle's face appearing in a Yorkshire Pudding scene! You're no one until your face has appeared in food and been the subject of an online lookalike gallery. In 2009 The Mirror newspaper ran a story on a Yorkshire Pudding that looked a bit like Subo - along with Jesus in a Kit-Kat.

6. The Elaine Page calling her 'a virus' scene! Even a star like Susan Boyle has her idols - but unfortunately, he favourite singer once referred to her as "a virus who had spread across the world in a nanosecond", adding: "I don't particularly feel any pride for her - I'm sure she is proud of what she has done." Paige later apologised.

5. The man trying to get into her bedroom scene! Men trying to get into your bedroom must be a daily occurance for the likes of Rihanna, but when Subo was followed up four flights of stairs by a male admirer in April 2012 - the spinster singer was understandably shocked. "He made a dash for her door, saying he wanted her autograph, but she managed to get into the room safe and sound. It was really scary for her," reported The Mirror.

4. The swearing at police scene! She may have the voice of an angel (or at the least a very nice nun), but her language is less than holy. In 2009 Subo swore at police officers after being 'wound up' by fans at a North London Hotel. After swearing at fans, police asked the singer if she was OK. To which she responded: "Of course there's a f***ing problem," reported The Metro.

3. The invite to perform with Rage Against The Machine scene! A legion of stars have lined up to collaborate with Subo including Adam Lambert, Rihanna and Snoop Dogg, but none so unusal as Rage Against The Machine. The band invited her to perform at their Rage Factor gig in London in 2011. "We love Susan Boyle, she is hot. To show there are no hard feelings we would like her to perform with us on stage this summer," said Zac De La Rocha in 2011 to The Sun.
2. The being snubbed by Lou Reed scene! Needless to say, the Susan Boyle movie will be a jolly old romp, so it's unlikely to include her crying fit after Lou Reed personally refused an invite to perform with Subo on America's Got Talent. She pulled out of her appearance altogether, maybe because she had only practised half the words of 'Perfect Day'.
1. The 'Anal Bum Party' scene! As Susan Boyle released her Standing Ovation album in November 2012, it was celebrated on Twitter with the official hashtag #susanalbumparty, causing many lols across the social network and beyond, as many pondered what would actually take place at a Susan Boyle anal bum party.
